Alcohol and the Capital
In London, there are currently 127,000 hospital admissions attributable to alcohol every year, equating to four Londoners a day being admitted to hospital as a result of their alcohol use. It is estimated 40% of A&E presentations are alcohol related and this almost doubles on Friday and Saturday nights. Alcohol is a contributing factor in violence and crime across London with an estimated 45% of violent crime being alcohol related.
Current estimates suggest that 2.4 million Londoners are drinking at harmful or hazardous levels while a further 300,000 are dependant. It is worth noting that these figures look set to rise.
